Security products designed to protect applications (e.g. Layer 7) are becoming increasigly common. Largely because there is becoming a willing acceptance that all code contains at least some vulnerabilities. According to Carnegie Mellon University’s CyLab Sustainable Computing Consortium, there are 20-30 bugs per 1000 lines of code. Now consider operating systems these days have over 40 million lines of code, we can see why we need third party application controls.
